Living Life Like Nothing is Guaranteed (Because It’s Not)

Waking up this morning, I was struck by the news from New Orleans…

Rewind to last night, Dec 31st, 2024. For all of those individuals on Bourbon Street, last night was a celebration of the year that had just passed. At the same time, it was a time of excitement, anticipating what 2025 could bring and looking forward to the future.

Some of those people’s futures were cut off in an instant. Everything they had been hoping for and dreaming about minutes early was ripped away. Families will mourn this week. People will come back to work and see empty chairs. Funerals will be planned.

To our friends in Louisiana, we’re thinking of all of you right now…

What an uplifting message to start the year with, right?

It can be, and here’s why…

If you are reading this, that means you woke up this morning. It means you were given one more day.

What does the rest of 2025 hold in store for you? Don’t know.

What we do know is this. Today, specifically this moment you’re in right now, is a gift. Reflecting on the last 24 hours, that gift is not to be wasted.

The challenge for each of us as we enter this new year is simple. Be present and make the most of the moments you’re given.

Wherever your feet are throughout 2025, care for each other more.

Give your work your best.

Smile at the cashier and ask them how their day is going.

Do something uncomfortable that scares you.

Take care of yourself, mentally and physically.

Hug someone. Give good high-fives.

Live your life like you’re grateful for it.

Most of all, don’t take any of it for granted. That’s the goal for this coming year. Don’t take 2025 for granted.

It will come with highs and lows, wins and failures, love and loss… Embrace all of it, show up as the best version of yourself you can, and don’t take it for granted, because you have a gift right now that some people don’t.
